THE ASSIGNMENT
Belden had evolved. Its story needed to catch up.
For more than 120 years, Belden had built its reputation around wire, cable and connectivity infrastructure. But the company had evolved far beyond the products it was historically known for, expanding its capabilities to provide integrated solutions for increasingly complex network and data environments.
Belden had recently refreshed its brand, but market perception still leaned heavily on its manufacturing legacy. The company came to our agency with an initial assignment to help rewrite its website and tell a more future-facing story about the business it had become.
The more I looked at the writing problem, the more I questioned whether writing alone could solve it.
CHALLENGING THE BRIEF
Before rewriting the website, I challenged the premise behind it.
Belden wanted to move beyond its legacy as a wire and cable manufacturer and establish itself as a modern solutions provider. But I believed distancing the company from its history would mean leaving behind one of its strongest assets.
When I looked across Belden's history, I didn't just see a succession of products. I saw a company repeatedly applying its expertise to new problems, new technologies and new possibilities.
Belden's longevity wasn't a liability. It was proof.
The opportunity wasn't to abandon the past in order to tell a more modern story. It was to understand what had remained true about Belden all along, then build a brand capable of carrying that truth forward.
EXPANDING THE MEANING OF CONNECTION
The history revealed a consistent idea, but there was a challenge in turning it into positioning.
I believed connection was the territory Belden should own.
Within the industry, however, “connection” was often understood literally: connectors, cables and the physical infrastructure that joins one thing to another. That definition was too narrow for the company Belden had become.
Belden’s solutions could create many different kinds of connection. A smart arena could connect fans to a greater game-day experience. A customer could bring Belden a complex problem and be connected to a solution. The opportunity was to separate the idea of connection from the physical connector, and give the word enough meaning to represent Belden’s expanding role.
Connection wasn’t just what Belden made. It was what Belden made possible.
CONNECT TO WHAT’S POSSIBLE
The positioning gave Belden a way to hold its history and transformation in the same story.
Connection was no longer limited to the physical products Belden had been known for. It became a way to express the larger value of its solutions, connecting customers to ideas, experiences and possibilities that technology could make real.
That thinking became the foundation for a new brand platform built around a simple belief:
Better connections unlock untold possibilities.
From there, the idea had to become more than a line. It needed to shape how Belden spoke, looked and showed up across the organization.
FROM POSITIONING TO EXPRESSION
“Connect to What’s Possible” became more than a positioning line. It became a filter for how the new Belden brand should speak, look and behave.
I worked across the team as the strategy took shape through messaging, visual identity, website experience, brand films and internal activation. On the verbal side, that meant helping build a language system that could communicate Belden’s purpose, solutions, industries and customer value without retreating into the technical language that had historically defined the company.
The idea that better connections unlock untold possibilities became a foundation for Belden’s purpose, its Complete Connection Solutions offer, website messaging, sales and marketing communications, employer brand and internal storytelling.
I also contributed perspective as the strategy was translated visually and experientially through the new identity, anthem videos and other brand expressions. Across every touchpoint, the goal was the same: make Belden’s transformation understandable while keeping it connected to what had always been true about the company.
The strategy established the territory. Every expression had to make it real.
A WINDOW INTO WHAT’S POSSIBLE
The idea of connection also became part of Belden’s new visual identity.
The new mark uses three parallel lines to represent Belden bringing people, information and ideas together. At the center, the negative space creates a window, a visual expression of what can become possible when those connections are made.
That “window into what’s possible” extended beyond the logo into the broader visual system, giving the brand a device for showing the outcomes, experiences and possibilities Belden helps enable.
The positioning wasn’t simply something Belden said. It became something people could see.
BUILDING MOMENTUM FROM THE INSIDE OUT
A brand transformation at this scale couldn’t live only in marketing. For the new Belden story to be credible externally, employees first needed to understand what was changing, why it mattered and how they fit within it.
The rollout was designed to turn the brand into a shared language across the organization. Over four months, Belden introduced the new platform through Living the Brand workshops for its top 100 global leaders, interactive brand and messaging training for teams across sales, marketing, corporate communications and HR, and launch events across corporate offices and manufacturing locations.
I contributed to the strategy, messaging and internal activation that helped employees connect the new brand to the work they were already doing. The objective wasn’t simply to introduce a new identity. It was to give people across Belden a clearer, more consistent way to understand and communicate what the company was becoming.
That internal alignment became part of the transformation itself.
“Our rebranding has helped us immensely to connect our employees under one vision and one company. Having one brand helps further accelerate our cultural transformation where connection and collaboration are key.”

A BRAND BUILT FOR THE TRANSFORMATION
What began as a website copy assignment ultimately became a new way for Belden to articulate who it was becoming.
The new brand helped bring greater clarity to Belden’s evolution from a product provider to a solutions partner, creating a more unified story across its positioning, messaging, visual identity, employee experience and customer communications.
Within months of launch, online engagement increased 33%, Belden saw increased interest in its solutions, and leaders around the globe were citing the new brand as a catalyst for organizational transformation. The work was also recognized with a Transform Gold Award for Best Corporate Brand Evolution.
Belden CEO Dr. Ashish Chand described the evolution this way:
“This recognition affirms that our brand evolution reflects the strategic transformation happening across our organization. We’re not just changing how we look. We’re changing how we partner with customers to solve their most complex challenges.”
The assignment was to help Belden tell its story better. The opportunity was to help Belden understand the story it had been telling all along, then build a brand capable of carrying it forward.
